9th West Bridgford ( Holy Spirit) Scouts
Scouting offers a huge range of activities for Boys and girls aged from 6 upwards.
Here at Holy Spirit we currently have a Cub Scout pack for ages 8 to about 10.5 years, and a Scout troop for ages 10 to 14.
What do we do ? pretty much anything we want to do… our Scout troop, in the last few years, have camped in all weathers, including snow at Brass Monkey camp. We have done patrol camps, troop camps, expeditions without leaders, international camps, and one of our Scouts has been selected to go to Japan for the 2015 World Scout Jamboree. We have cooked on fires ( regularly), and also with full kitchen facilities on occasion. They have slept in tents, home made bivvies and on a groundsheet under the stars

We have done all sorts of activities… grass sledging, archery, climbing , abseiling, tunnelling, sword fencing, rifle shooting, mountain boarding, tree climbing, go karting and zipwiring
so what about our normal weekly meetings ? Normally some games, maybe some badgework , learning new skills, some crazy theme nights
Yes , they do tie knots ( after a fashion ) and use them to make ballistas to try and fire water balloons at the leaders
Yes, they learn first aid. Some will be doing the emergency aid badge after Christmas
Yes, they learn to read maps, and they go out and use that skill at the district night hike each October. 2 teams this year, one of them doing 10 miles without a leader.

There are loads of badges to choose from. The top award for the Scout section is the Chief Scout’s Gold Award, and to gain it they need to earn challenge badges . The challenge badges are Outdoor, creative, fitness, global, community, promise, outdoor plus, adventure and expedition.
What don’t we do ? Well we don’t bungee jump ! More importantly, We don’t discriminate. Scouting is for anyone who wants to join in, regardless of ability. Our Scouts are all great, and very friendly and welcoming.

We don’t have at the moment. However there is a lot of demand for more Beaver Colonies in West Bridgford so if you are interested in setting up and leading a Beaver Colony within our group, please contact Margaret Walker.
