MINUTES OF LAST MEETING

A few clerical errors were pointed out and the minutes were amended accordingly and recirculated.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF LAST MEETING

1.Holy Week: IM plans to review aspects of Holy Week with Tony Wheat and will summarise the discussion in the July PPC meeting.

2. Agenda for PPC meetings: IM would like to produce and circulate the agenda for meetings in plenty of time. Please pass on items for the agenda to IM with a minimum of one week’s notice before the meeting.

The PPC then split into Mission & Spirituality groups and later reformed into one group. Each group then gave a summary of their discussions (refer to the following sets of minutes for full details.)

MISSION GROUP MINUTES

Present: IM(Chair),AM,CH,DK,PMoly,MR,GT,SP,LB,VL

1.Photos of PPC members – no update because JH not present.

2.Notice board – CH & GT to meet to discuss the way forward

3.Feedback from parish groups – LB gave feedback re. replies received so far in response to the letter from LB & CH to all parish groups. She will chase up the outstanding replies and then pass on relevant info. to AM for inclusion in the parish directory & welcome pack.

4.Mass Rota – no update because SG not present.

5.Welcome pack – AM reported that the cost of personalized presentation folders is likely to be £1000 for 1000 at retail cost – but we could probably get them at a reduced cost price. IM explained that a large part of the start up cost lies in setting the template for the folder and the art work.

The group thought this cost was too high. IM will find out the cost of producing 100 or 200 of the folders. CH suggested we find out the cost of producing the card template, which he could subsequently ask a friend to print a design on. Various group members said they would look into the cost of alternative "on the shelf" folders. GT suggested an upper limit of £250 ought to be spent on the folders.

AM showed the group the contents of the welcome pack and asked if anyone had any additional suggestions for what ought to be included. GT suggested including prospectuses for the schools, something about the diocese and more reference to our neighboring churches of K and C. It was suggested that the school prospectuses would be too large to go in the pack and that an A4 paper "mini" prospectus might be better. There was discussion about whether the Rushcliffe information booklet ought to be included or not.

It was suggested that every family in the parish should have a parish directory when it is complete.

SPIRITUALITY GROUP MINUTES

Present: AT, VA (secretary), PMoll, MJ, CC, MD (chair), JE

1.Reading Group: MJ commented that there had been a good response to the first notice about the Reading Group (starting 1 June). Notice to be included in next week’s newsletter again.

2.Parish Library: not much feedback had been received either by the readers or through the open letter of March to the various groups in the parish. VA was to ask for help and set up working group before asking for donations of books. NB Later in the whole group meeting GT suggested that this project should be put on the backburner until more work had been done on the Social Centre redevelopment; they will think about how a ‘library’ (shelves of books? reading room?) might be incorporated into the overall plans

3.Pentecost: further to MD’s email after the separate spiritual group meeting, it was felt that – as had been decided at that meeting – no big projects were to be undertaken this year. Suggestions for next year included a birthday party for the parish. For this year, VA to write bidding prayers for Pentecost Masses; MD and MJ to discuss possible text for inclusion after homily, which would encourage us to renew our commitment to the Holy Spirit.

4.Corpus Christi: MD asked that a working group be set up to finalise details. Letter to police has been written; Phil and Liz Bonner and Rosario Hannigan to coordinate stewarding and marshalling; AM and IM to coordinate music; MJ to ask Edmund Campion school for support; GT to ask Becket school for support; Clifton parish will now not be participating; Peter Swarbrick to be brought up to speed re K and C involvement. N.B. Later in the whole group discussion it was decided that the musicians should go in the centre of the procession so that the maximum number of walkers could hear them. It was also decided that MD should contact Peter Swarbrick to try to get stewards from K and C. MD is also to put up a list in the church porch at WB for volunteer stewards. A working group met at the end of the PPC meeting to finalise details for the procession.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Future of the Core Group

VL said that 5 people attended the last core group meeting and that each of the 3 churches in the parish were represented. Could its future role be to build up a liaison between WB, K and C ? Could the core group take forward the assembly recommendations, eg. interfaith dialogue ? The core group decided to try to get new members and ask each PPC for suggestions about its future role.

GT said that the core group seem ideally placed to build bridges and bring the 3 churches together. Given that 4 out of the 5 members present at the last meeting attended the assembly they are also ideally placed to implement assembly recommendations. Whatever they can do to help in these areas would be excellent. DK pointed out that the Cafod groups in the 3 churches have liaised well recently. PMoly pointed out that K and C are just starting up an SVP group which had a large attendance at its first meeting & looks encouraging. VA is organizing a readers’ training day and has invited K and C readers to come along. CC suggests that next year’s Corpus Christi procession could start and finish at the church in K or C.

VL will discuss the future with the rest of the core group.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

8pm Wednesday 9th June 2004 in the Presbytery meeting room.

The meeting was closed with a prayer
