APOLOGIES:

Jon Higham (JonH)

We needed to nominate a Vice-Chairman in the absence of the Chair, Chris Hoban (CH) was nominated. CH commenced and asked (CC) to start with a prayer.

The minutes of the last meeting were circulated and the following were matters arising:-

  1. Some replies are still to come in from various groups in the parish. CH and LB have been putting together a letter around developing a skills base in the parish also a letter re the Social Centre.
  2. Fr Greg thanked CH for all the help given over the Easter period. CH will put up a couple more notice boards in due course, which will hopefully stop people putting up bits of paper with blu tak etc.

AGENDA ITEMS:

CH has been talking with other groups re welcome packs.

Before moving on GT handed round a list of dates for future parish events which need to be considered and prepared for. i.e. The Corpus Christi procession – do we want to do it again – and if so Clifton parish might want to link in with us.

AM asked about music for Confirmation, GT was happy for AM to choose in conjunction with the young people themselves. CC would take care of the readings ensuring young people from other schools as well as the Becket were represented. AM to do the booklet in MR absence.

(JimH) asked about the Corpus Christi procession – GT would like one or two volunteers to get together with Clifton, Cotgrave and Keyworth and come up with a master plan. CH thought it was something one of the groups could do. (JimH) would organise the altar servers, Paul Mather marshals and police. VL mentioned publicising it on the web-site. GT asked people to bring in ideas from other parishes. It was felt to be important to keep it a local ‘public witness’ .

CH asked about reviewing Holy Week and it was thought this group could do that. It was agreed that it had been a busy but wonderful week. Next year, MJ hopes to have a firework display after the vigil !

CC mentioned the Development Group – the Minutes of this group are on the web-site. GT asked PM to say a few words about what happened at the last Dev. Meeting. They looked at both the Church and Soc Centre – an architectural student in the parish will draw up some plans based around current thoughts.

CH mentioned a problem with the ignition on central heating boiler which interferes with the radio microphone- we had tried turning the heating off during services.

At this point the meeting split into MISSION and SPIRITUALITY groups for approx 15 minutes and would report back to the main meeting.

MISSION GROUP :

CH ran through the Minutes of the last meeting and the following were matters arising:-

Database of skills: CH and LB have both come up with an enquiry letter. SP is co-ordinating a PPC data base - it was thought prudent to have just one database not several. CH thought we should just have a list of people we can call on discreetly for help or advice.

AM asked if someone was up-dating the parish records. SP wondered about up-dating the parish census and who would in-put the parish data base. It was a grey area and needs to be in compliance with the Data Protection Act.

CH thought we ought to take it away and discuss further the whole question of data-bases, skills registers etc. GT said the idea of setting up a parish register didn’t come from him, however, thought a sheet could be inserted into the welcome packs to enquire about available skills.

Welcome Pack: AM The brief at the last meeting was to come back to this meeting with a skeleton pack – consisting of a cover, a small card, local NHS info, Social club details and application, gift aid declaration, brief history of parish, info re parish groups, parish register/census, choir etc.

GT said he had approx two new enquiries a month. IM thought this pack would be the first impression a potential new parishioner would have. GT thought this pack could be a model possibly for the Diocese in fact many parishes are now working along these ideas and suggested contacting The Diocesan centre at Mackworth for advice. Cotgrave & Keyworth are also discussing welcome packs including a letter of welcome from the parish. IM thanked AM and SP for their work on this project.

SPIRITUALITY GROUP;

(JimH) reported from the group ideas like asking people to say a decade of the rosary for a particular intention.

MD Co-ordination of Corpus Christi Procession, rosary for May with special intentions.

AM noticed that in Cotgrave and Keyworth individual people are prayed for. (GT was unsure about mentioning individual people as there are many other deserving intentions we don’t know about.)

MD Spirituality Policy and Statement of Intent. GT suggested the group need to look at relevant church documents. GT said Spirituality and Mission came out of the Diocesan Assembly.

SUMMARY:

CH said we had been given dates for the parish diary, the database is now going to be a lot less complicated, it will actually become part of the welcome pack – it is possible it will be spread further afield, i.e. shared with other churches. CH congratulated AM and SP for all their work.

GT asked for a show of hands about the starting time of the meetings. Carried – meetings to be from 8 until 9.30pm CC - ended the meeting with a prayer she found on the internet.

NEXT MEETING: 8pm Wednesday, 12th May 2004 in the Presbytery meeting room.
