MINUTES OF DECEMBER 2008 MEETING
Accepted as a true record.
MATTERS ARISING FROM THE DECEMBER MINUTES
a) Education
GT referred to the Newsletter re talks given by organisations outside the Parish. He suggested that our catechists and parish groups could get together and encourage each other to respond to Adult Education courses and training in other parishes in the deanery.
e.g. Good Shepherd Parish - A day on 7th Feb. "Pray Paul" by Fr Joseph O’Hanlon
GT has spoken to the Deanery website organiser (Peter Swarbrick) to look at the bigger picture and to advertise events beyond our Parish.
b) Youth Worker
MG is working with Wayne Sherwood and Liz Bonner. Two enquiries have been made regarding the post and will be followed up by the committee, but as yet no further news.
c) Corpus Christi Procession
An organiser is needed to co-ordinate it. Date 14-6-09
MJ will talk to Liz Bonner and get back to GT and JH.
UPDATE ON OPERATION CHRISTMAS CARD
The parishioners were encouraged to deliver the cards and 80% went out around West Bridgford. Generally it went as well as previous years and the packaging was a good social evening. PW reported that Compton Acres area needs better coverage.
Cotgrave parish pay for their cards to be delivered. Should we consider it, if it causes stress to our parishioners? Could the scouts be involved with deliveries?
Consider Royal Mail or an advert in the Free Papers. Action JH to find out costs.
CHRISTMAS MASSES
All were well attended. At the busy Masses more ushers needed for crowd control. The 6.30 + Midnight Mass were quite solemn and meaningful but MJ commented that the 9am Mass was flat and lacked festive atmosphere. GT asked "What are hopes and expectations for a Christmas Mass? Visitors change the atmosphere of Mass from the normal weekend ones."
EASTER 2009 Ash Wednesday 25-2-09, Easter Sunday 12-4-09
No cards this year, instead website of Churches Together and Advert in paper.
Usual Monday Station Masses around the deanery (7-8pm confessions).
Stations of the Cross on Sunday evening. All Lent activities will be published later.
AOB
a) MJ reported on The Passion Play, which is doubtful if it will go ahead as the person playing Jesus has a serious illness in the family. (Group of 30 actors from Wales would need B&B if came)
GT commented Ann Murray produced one in the Parish 2003with the Youth Group.
b) The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be published in the Newsletter. Action JM to organise
c) GT wanted to look at the direction of the PPC, revisit the Parish Pastoral Plan, review and re-focus. Each month GT wants the PPC to look at the plan. Is the Mission Statement still true for the Holy Spirit?
MES – we do lots to fulfil the statement but more could be done. KP – Mission encompasses all the parish groups.
JH – PPC encourages all groups to state their case and will help when needed.
PW – in the two paragraphs there are two different ideas. The majority of the parish want the sacraments, some want more, which is not always fulfilled by the existing groups.
GT – PPC members to ask their groups - "Does belonging to the HS Parish assist YOU in your spiritual journey?"
It was decided to ask KES to put the Parish Pastoral Plan on the Parish website and ask the community to think about it with direction from the altar.
Action GT
GT led the Closing Prayer.
Next meeting 11th February 2009 in the Social Centre.
