2. MINUTES OF MARCH 2008 MEETING
Accepted as a true record.
3. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MARCH 2008 MINUTES
a) Interfaith Photographic Exhibition
MR reported that she received no answers to her queries about the staging of the exhibition at The Holy Spirit Social Centre.
b) Traidcraft Sales
MC reported an encouraging start: £281 worth of goods were sold at the first sale.
The next two sales will be on 27 April & 18 May. MC suggested 3 options for sites for a storage cupboard for the Traidcraft goods. MR will consult with GT about the best option. Action MR
Our CAFOD group would like the parish to become a "Fairtrade Parish." This would require a contact to promote this through the PPC (MC), the sale of Fairtrade products within the parish, promoting their use at parish functions and the promotion of Fairtrade in parish events and worship where possible. MC will contact groups using the Social Centre to encourage them to buy Faitrade products and will promote Fairtrade in the newsletter. Action MC
MR will consult with GT about having Bidding Prayers for Fairtrade producers. Action MR
c) Large print hymn books
MES reported that the cost of commissioning 20 copies of spiral bound large print hymn files would be £212.45. These would each have 100 double sided sheets, an acetate front sheet and a card back sheet.
Another option discussed was to produce the photocopied pages in house and send them for spiral binding. Both options would require the selection of suitable hymns and the typing up of the words in a suitable font and font size. Copyright issues may be involved – we need to explore. Action MR
JH is exploring the possibility of buying large print hymn books.
d) Church lighting
LB is to revisit "Disability Awareness" in the parish in September and will investigate whether this is a widespread problem. Action LB
e) Education Actions
MES offered to write an article for the newsletter inviting parishioners to start an Eduction Group. MES will co-ordinate the setting up of the group if there is sufficient interest. PeterW and Maria Dabrowska have expressed interest already. Action MES
f) Handing on our faith
MES and Maria Dabrowska are to attend the next Deanery Meeting on 23 April. PeterW and CC are parish deanery reps and are welcome to attend.
g) Corpus Christi Procession
LB handed out fliers for the procession, which will take place after the 10.30am Mass on 25 May and reported that the Police will be in attendance. JH will decide whether or not to go ahead with the procession if the weather is bad. LB suggested that strong voices in the fellowship groups lead the rosary and MES suggested they ring a bell at the start of each decade to assist co-ordination along the procession. MJ offered to co-ordinate the marshals. LB will co-ordinate everything else.
h) Missalettes
MR explained that an entire batch of missalettes went missing during refurbishment of the church, when we had Mass in The Becket, 3 years ago. This accounts for the lack of missalettes recently.
It was noted that there is an insufficient number of Hymn Books and it was suggested that greeters encourage families to share.
i) The Passion Play
Enthusiasm for this project was expressed and the group would like JM to confirm a date with her contacts. Action JM
MJ will consult with the SVP regarding the co-ordination of the project. Action MJ
4. LGBT MASS
After discussion it was decided to recommend to GT that we advertise this Mass, which will take place at 3pm on Saturday 26 April in Holy Cross Church in Leicester.
5 PARISH FEEDBACK
Some concern was expressed about the severe overcrowding at the 10.30am Mass on Easter Sunday morning. It was suggested that we monitor what happens next year but plan ahead to handle the situation if it occurs again next year.
6. A.O.B.
a) Paul Johns from West Bridgford Methodist Church has asked MR to find one or more people in the parish who might be interested in helping to raise funds for St Hannah’s Orphanange in Iraq.
MR distributed copies of the latest St Hannah’s newsletter and fliers for "The Bobby Palatine Show," which will support St Hannah’s. The production will take place at 8pm on Wed 21 to Fri 25 May at the Methodist Church on Musters Road. MR asked PPC members to highlight the Show within their groups and to pass names on to her of anyone who might be interested in getting more involved with St Hannah’s.
b) ATH highlighted the problem of getting blocked into the parking spaces outside the Social Centre by vehicles parking on the road adjacent to the spaces.
The meeting was closed with a prayer.
NEXT MEETING:
8pm on Wed 14 May 2008 in the Social Centre
