a) Parish Library
Shelving is now in place – thanks to Chris & Dominic Hoban.
MR will make arrangements for the return of books from storage & JH will receive them & recruit help to catalogue them Action MR & JH
JH thanked VL for her help with this project and for her invaluable work for the PPC over the last few years. Best wishes were expressed for Veronica’s new job and move to London.
b) Traidcraft Sales
MC will give further thought to the best storage site for Traidcraft stock and hopes to set up in time for Traidcraft fortnight (25 Feb-9 Mar). Action MC
c) Prayer intentions
Further discussion was held and MJ offered to set up a prayer board at the back of church. Parishioners will be able to write out petitions on cards, which can then be displayed on the prayer board. Action MJ
d) Large print hymn books
JH reported that Maria Dabrowska has offered to liaise with the 6.30pm music group to identify & enlarge copies of forthcoming hymns for visually impaired parishioners. The success of this trial will be reviewed. We still need volunteers to do the same for 9am & 10.30am Mass. LB reminded us of the importance of "enabling" people rather than letting them "make do."
e) Operation Christmas card
JH thanked everyone for their efforts but noted that quite a lot of envelope packets were left undelivered – particularly in the Gamston, Compton Acres and Trent Bridge areas. We will review whether and how to carry on with the Operation before next Christmas. GT was very pleased with the organisation of the Christmas Masses and thanked everyone for their efforts.
4. PARISH PASTORAL PLAN – REVIEW OF SECTION 3 EDUCATION ACTIONS
a) To devise & promote a seasonal programme of talks & courses about the Faith
Events during the last year have included talks to those involved in sacramental preparation, discussions within the fellowship groups, RCIA programme, Lenten programme, Parish retreat at Rearsby, Parish weekend at The Briars, UCM retreat with GT, advertising Newman Association talks at the Cathedral and events within the area. MES will explore options with the fellowship groups. Action MES
b) To encourage parishioners to own & read the Bible & the Catechism
The purchase of catechisms has been encouraged and copies are available on the CTS stand. Ownership of a bible is encouraged in the First Holy Communion classes and Becket pupils are encouraged to buy
"The Good News" bible. The "Walk with Me" programme booklets were commended and they encourage the reading of bible passages. Further opportunities were explored. JM offered to identify the readings for the weekend Masses a week in advance in the newsletter. Action JM
PhilW & CC will explore the possibility of the Gideon Society supplying New Testaments within the parish. Action PhilW & CC
c) To build a lending library of books, literature & other educational resources available to all parishioners
In hand !
d)
To extend the content & quality of teaching in the Children’s Liturgy Group, First Holy Communion, Baptism, Marriage & RCIA & Confirmation coursesChildren’s Lit. Gp
. - material has been reviewed in the past & GT receives feedback from parents and passes it on to the leaders.First Holy Comm. – a review takes place with GT and the leaders at the end of each year.
Baptism – a review takes place with GT and the leaders each year and new material is being sourced.
Marriage – is led independently by "Marriage Care" but GT believes the material is reviewed regularly.
RCIA – is due to be reviewed. MJ suggested that her husband, who has recently been on the programme, would be very happy to give feedback.
Confirmation - the programme has recently been reviewed for Jan 2008. CC suggested the candidates be asked to review the new programme when they finish.
JH asked the group to give consideration to whether sufficient "aftercare" is given after these programmes, particularly for RCIA and Confirmation.
e) Through the assistance of a youth worker, to encourage the children & young people of the parish to receive the sacraments regularly and to value their creativity within the parish liturgy
Recruitment process for a Youth Worker continues.

This is a CTWB venture and VL has booked the Social Centre for Tuesday evenings in Lent (7.30pm – 9.30pm). The meetings will use "Pathways to Prayer", material from CTBI (Churches together in Britain & Ireland.) People are needed to facilitate small group discussion, to take responsibility for opening and locking the Social Centre and for greeting people.
GT emphasised the importance of someone taking responsibility for these events before they can go ahead. MES will liaise with VL. Action MES & VL
