MINUTES OF LAST MEETING (11/2/2004) were approved.

FOLLOW UP OF MISSION GROUP MINUTES OF LAST MEETING

SG summarized the main points of the minutes and invited follow-up :

  1. A letter was given to all PPC members tonight for distribution to every parish group. It was again emphasized that the role of the P.P.C. is to support & co-ordinate the other parish groups – not to take over.
  2. SP is considering the format to be used for a parish diary.
  3. SP needs more information re. exactly what we want before she can develop the data base.
  4. A sheet of ideas for the welcome pack was distributed and discussed. Suggestions for additional items included details of how to join the social club and a bankers standing order. Additional ideas included how to reach out to the new student population at the start of the academic year and setting up a "welcomer" for a particular area of the parish who would visit newcomers.
  5. Information was collected re. which P.P.C. members would be willing to "man" each mass. PMoll suggested P.P.C. members should be formally commissioned during weekend mass but not all felt this would be a good idea.

6. JimH outlined the liturgy plans for Holy Week – these are well

advanced & no further action is needed. It was suggested we produce a glossy leaflet containing details of the Holy Week liturgy for parishioners’ information – but this was felt to be unnecessary since the info. will be on the parish newsletter anyway.

  1. VL’s e mail to IM re. this subject was read out to the group. It was noted that members of other churches in the area have been invited to the Passover meal on Maundy Thursday and to the "Born for this" liturgy on Good Friday. GT commented that our outreach beyond our own community is a very important area. He suggested we think about "taster evenings" re. what it is to be a catholic.
  2. JonH took digital photos of all P.P.C. members at the meeting.
  3. a) CH suggested making a free – standing noticeboard for P.P.C. activities ACTION CH

b) It was suggested that the sealed noticeboard currently inside the church porch be moved outside the main doors, under the canopy, to make more display room available inside ACTION CH

FOLLOW UP OF SPIRITUALITY MINUTES OF LAST MEETINg

1. The Spirituality group minutes of 11th & 16th February 2004 were

summarized by JimH. A degree of concern was expressed about the overlap with the Mission group in some areas.

  1. The Shrove Tuesday party was organized by some members of the
  2. group but a view was expressed that in future this may not be part of this group’s remit.

  3. It was agreed that it is important to support adult catholics once they
  4. have completed their RCIA induction. It was also recognized that these adults have much to offer the rest of our community – they should be encouraged to share with us what it’s like to go through the process of becoming a catholic. It was also noted that young people, recently confirmed, need our support too.

  5. It was pointed out that this group is trying to find its focus and GT agreed that it is difficult to set an "agenda" for Spirituality – it needs to be nurtured in a "creative" way. MJ saw the role of the Spirituality group as "sustaining this community in its faith". PMoll suggested the focus is split into
      1. parish spirituality
      2. individual spirituality.

It was felt that ideas will develop with time.

THE MISSION & SPIRITUALITY GROUPS THEN SPLIT INTO SEPARATE GROUPS AND LATER REFORMED INTO ONE GROUP TO CONCLUDE THE MEETING

SG and JimH summarized the substance of each group’s discussions, which will be reported in each group’s separate minutes.

NEXT MEETING : 7.30pm Wednesday 14th April 2004 in the presbytery meeting room.

The meeting was closed with a prayer.
