Accepted as a true record of the meeting.
2. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE APRIL 2007 MINUTES
A) Parish library
CH will put up the shelving for this in the bar lounge area of the Social Centre.
MD asked to be removed from the group. Action CH
B) Plan of church & associated facilities
No progress to report at present.
C) Stained Glass Windows
CH will investigate the use of "anti sun film" or an alternative Action CH
D) Walk of Witness 2008
VL reported that a sub group of the "Churches Together in West Bridgford" group is to be set up to plan a walk of witness in West Bridgford for Good Friday 2008. GT hopes to join this group and will suggest that we plan Stations of the Cross on The Avenue on Good Friday.
3. EVALUATION OF CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION
LB reported that she was very pleased with the procession : good turnout, good representation from various parish groups (uniformed groups, Celtic football teams, First Holy Communion group, babies with balloons etc), plenty of marshals & first aiders, good support from the police & Nottm. City Transport, good singing, good choice of hymns which carried well.
PPC members who attended the procession agreed it went very well.
PM thanked LB and Vicky Acklam for their excellent work in organising the procession and suggested the challenge for next year is to get every person singing and saying the rosary.
Other ideas for improvements included handing out programmes as people line up for the procession & as they leave Mass, the use of a megaphone to relay the rosary down the line, spreading the good singers out, singing more hymns and putting "parishioners" in the middle of the procession. It was suggested we start planning next year’s procession at the February PPC meeting.
It was suggested we write to thank the police and Nottm City Transport for their help with this year’s event. Action MR
4. UPDATE ON YOUTH WORKER
The group have been working hard on producing the necessary paperwork for an appointment – job description, personal application form, terms & conditions – so we are ready for when an appointment is made. Some parishes outside our deanery have expressed an interest in joining us in the project but it is hoped that more interest will come from parishes within our own deanery. Fr Joe Wheat recommends we don’t waste too much money advertising the appointment nationally – word of mouth or advertising to the Catholic Youth Service will probably be most productive.
5. REVIEW OF PPC ROLE AT MASSES
PPC members were urged to maintain a high profile and be proactive at Mass, even if they did not have a specific designated role – particularly when regular greeters, MCs etc are absent. MG asked that we keep a particular eye on altar servers, who occasionally become faint or sick. CH reminded us that there are plastic cups in the cloakroom to give out a drink of water.
6. DISTRIBUTION OF LETTERS RE. "MIGRANT & ITINERANT PEOPLES UNIT"
MR distributed these for information.
7. PPC RENEWAL
MR reported that no nominations have been received for the role of Parish Rep on the PPC. It was suggested that a more informal note about Parish Reps is used in the newsletter in future. CH urged members to personally encourage parishioners to join the PPC. Members were urged to inform MR and endeavour to find a replacement if they intend to step down this year. MD and AT gave notice that they will stepping down from the PPC this year. A sub committee will review PPC renewal issues.
8. FURTHER REVIEW OF PARISH PASTORAL PLAN
"Parish structures & planning – to produce a parish review – an annual report of the progress made in achieving the targets of the PPP"…………after discussion about how to achieve this aspect of the PPP it was decided to produce some kind of photo/CD/DVD report of "a year in our parish" to end with an invitation to parishioners to join parish groups. VL offered to approach Trent University Media Department to see if one of their students might produce something for presentation/distribution to parishioners. Action VL
9. MAY JOINT PPC MEETING WITH COTGRAVE
This was felt to be a positive and productive meting and it was hoped we can build on the expectations raised. GT suggested that our Autumn Fair committee might discuss how we could help Cotgrave with their Summer Fair (Sat 21 July) and vice versa. MC is looking into Cotgrave’s Traidcraft sales & connections with a view to extending sales in W.B. CH will investigate if our liquor license can be extended to events at Cotgrave. GT hoped to see the two communities coming together again in an even bigger way for the Easter liturgies of 2008.
10. FEEDBACK FROM NEWSLETTER PPC COLUMN
Nothing to report.
The meeting was closed with a prayer.
