  7. OPENING REMARKS

IM prepared the meeting for splitting into the two groups proposed at the last PPC : MISSION AND SPIRITUALITY. He suggested that each group should :

He also suggested that the SPIRITUALITY group might like, in future, to organize spiritual readings for future PPC meetings.

The meeting then split into a MISSION group and a SPIRITUALITY group.

MINUTES OF THE MISSION GROUP (11th February 2004)

PRESENT : VL, JonH, LB, SG, SP, PM, CH, AM, IM, MR

SG acted as Chairman. MR acted as Secretary.

DISCUSSION

1. The group felt that the role of the PPC was to support, facilitate,

and where necessary, co-ordinate the activities of the various parish

organisations. In order to communicate this role to the various parish

groups a LETTER is to be sent out to each explaining the role of the PPC.

Each group will be asked to feed back how the PPC can support their

activities and they will also be asked for key diary dates for the year

ahead. ACTION LB & CH

  1. The group decided to produce a PARISH DIARY once key dates
  2. have been received from the various groups. The diary should facilitate

the smooth co-ordination of events during the year and help the parish

to understand the role of various parish organizations. ACTION SP

  3. It was recognized that the parish community has a wealth of talent
  4. and skills that could be tapped into. Thought should be given to how

we can set up a DATA BASE of skills and how we can encourage people

to volunteer their skills and time. It was recognized that the collection

of such information would need to be done in a sensitive way, A very

useful spin off from such a data base would be a PARISH DIRECTORY

that informs parishioners about who does what. ACTION SP

  5. The group decided that we should build on the welcome afforded to
  6. newcomers in the parish. We acknowledged that the group of "greeters"

at all masses performed a very important role in providing an initial

welcome. We should go on to develop a "NEWCOMERS WELCOME PACK"

of useful information. ACTION AM & MR

  7. It was suggested that we draw up a ROTA FOR PPC members to be
  8. available at the back of church after every mass to offer help/be a

point of contact for parishioners with problems, suggestions or questions.

This could be advertised by the priest saying mass. The PPC member(s)

should wear some sort of identification (badge ?) ACTION SG

  9. LENT & EASTER LITURGY : IM & AM planned to attend the Liturgy
  10. Group meeting scheduled for the 12th February 2004. They will report

back to the PPC at our next meeting and let us know whether we need

to do anything. ACTION IM & AM

  11. As well as dealing with "internal" parish matters, the group felt that
  12. we should also REACH OUT BEYOND OUR OWN COMMUNITY – to

other faiths & to the marginalized. We recognize that we cannot do

everything all at once but to make a start in this field we shall try to

find out whether we have any useful function to perform to facilitate

the "Churches together in West Bridgford" group. ACTION VL

  13. It was felt that the PPC members should be well known and "visible"
  14. to the parish. The rota for after mass in point 5 above should help with

this. In addition it was decided that digital PHOTOGRAPHS of all PPC

members should be taken during the next meeting ready for display at

the back of church. ACTION JonH

  15. It was suggested that PPC minutes should be published to the parish.

A large noticeboard area will be needed for the display of PPC minutes,

activities and photographs. DISPLAY SPACE at the back of church is

limited and a suitable space must be found and prepared. ACTION CH

The Mission and Spirituality groups then reformed into one group.
