MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 2006 MEETING
Approved
1. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 2006 MEETING
a) Christmas Mass Arrangements
GT and a sub committee have explored the logistics of movement for Holy Communion. Their recommendations, together with those from tonight’s meeting will be put into effect for the Christmas Masses. The sub group recommended that two MCs should be on hand for each Mass and that the profile of greeters and MCs should be raised by the wearing of sashes. Greeters and MCs will be asked to direct the flow of parishioners going to and from the altar for Holy Communion.
The sub group also recommended that action should be taken if the church is getting too crowded at any of the Masses. It was decided that the MCs and greeters should take a collective decision to "close the doors" and stop more people coming in if the congregation size reaches saturation point.
b) Fellowship groups & the PPP
The targets of the PPP are being discussed at fellowship meetings this week and Mary Elliott Smith will feed back the results of the discussion. VL suggested we discuss this at the January PPC.
c) Welcome Ministry
MC reported ideas from an initial meeting with greeters :
1. Parishioners should be encouraged to share things, hymn books etc.
2. Greeters need to be better informed about materials to be handed out at Mass
PM reported that the SVP do visit older parishioners if they have been recently bereaved. It was noted that bereavement counseling needs professional care and it was also noted that the "Cruise" organisation helps bereaved family members.
MC will pass on to MR the e mail contacts of the greeters so they can be informed about materials to be handed out Action MC & MR
There was some discussion about styles of greeting. Another meeting is planned for January to disseminate information from the Mackworth meeting.
d) Adult Education
MD has had a meeting with GT to discuss a strategy and has set up an Adult Learning Education Group with MG, PhilW, John Edwards & David Paton. They will focus on "Communication, Co-operation and Collaboration". MG will be co-ordinating a "Learning Needs Survey" in the parish. MD highlighted a number of courses which will be taking place shortly at Mackworth.
The donated books are currently being stored by Tony Marsh.
MD, MG, PhilW, VL, CH and Renee Smith have formed a Parish Library Group and will present proposals to the PPC in due course about possible storage sites. Action
Fr. Joe Wheat has agreed to meet the sub committee at 7.30pm on Wednesday 31 January 2007 to discuss possibilities.
5. MG suggested we draw up a plan of the church and associated facilities for display
to parishioners. She will produce something for next meeting Action MG
MR requested help to distribute the remaining packs of Christmas cards at the coming weekend Masses. VL & MD offered 6.30pm Mass, AT 9am Mass and MC 10.30am Mass.
GT reported that this is now up and running and the first issue of the "Bridge" newsletter has been distributed to parishes.
It was noted that a Sunday evening Mass is available in our deanery – at the Cathedral.
2. REPORT REGARDING FIRE EXIT PROVISION TO SOCIAL CENTRE UPPER ROOM
