MINUTES OF JUNE MEETING

Approved.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF JUNE 2006 MEETING

  1. Parish Pastoral Plan
  2. VL has sent PPP booklet to Margaret Smidowicz at the Diocesan Office, also electronic version which has been placed on Diocesan website as example of best practice. Each area within the plan still needs heading up (action GT?). No formal responses as yet; many informal, all positive.

  3. Health & Safety issues in the church & social centre
  4. Need to look at ventilation upstairs in social centre; Cubs/Scouts leader had mentioned it was extremely hot during their meeting. Existing fans/ventilation need checking. CH mentioned possibility of future work to be carried out upstairs in social centre, so this issue to be included in those plans.

Incense: several people have mentioned that they suffer ill-effects from incense now used at all Masses (e.g. those suffering from asthma). CH to talk to GT about possibility of only having incense at 1 or 2 Masses, not all. To be included as agenda item next meeting.

  5. Youth Leader
  6. James Cooper, a colleague of Tom Baptist, met with students from Becket and Edmund Campion schools, to discuss their views and ideas on youth worker. Written report to be circulated electronically to all by VL. Next meeting: include as agenda item, decide plan to take next steps towards employing youth worker.

  7. Justice & Peace Group
  8. LB not present at meeting, details awaited next meeting.

    5. Parish AGM

See item below, re PPC membership.

  9. Day for Life: 9 July

JE reported that meeting was held 27 June; a few people attended. From that it was decided to focus on the 10.30 Mass. Leaflets and questionnaires were distributed; special Bidding Prayers written; children’s liturgy incorporated theme. Parishioners encouraged to take part in liturgy (welcome, offertory, reading). JE and LB felt it would have been good to have had either talk at sermon, or later on in the Mass, on the theme, to pull everything together. Discussion followed on importance of not ‘parading’ those with disabilities but rather ensuring that they are treated equally, and raising awareness of the issue. CH discussed research he is carrying out about making hymn nos larger, to aid any visually impaired parishioners.

TRAVEL PLAN

JimH and PL reported back on research they’d carried out into cycle racks being installed outside church. CH and PL to take research to GT with view to installing them asap, depending on budget. Position of racks probably to be where bikes are currently placed; discussion followed that other areas could be used in the future depending on how successful initial use has been.

PPC MEMBERSHIP/PARISH AGM

Vacancy on PPC has been advertised in newsletter; MD reported that one parishioner has expressed keen interest and should be applying soon. Further clarification on those members leaving the PPC at AGM is needed (VA and BT have served three years and expressed intention to stand down).

FEEDBACK FROM NEWSLETTER PPC COLUMN

No feedback received.

DIARY SLOT

VA distributed the latest update of the parish diary. Ken Elliot Smith has contacted VA and will get back to her about method of putting diary on website as ‘rolling’ item.

BT and PL discussed possibility of having further information on the current sermons published, either as leaflet or on website, together with references and further reading.

The meeting was closed with a prayer.

NEXT MEETING

8pm Wednesday 9 August 2006 in the Social Centre.
