MINUTES OF APRIL PPC MEETING

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF MARCH 2006 MEETING
VL distributed the latest draft version of the PPP and introduced Helen Andrews who has been working on the format and wording of the PPP.
Various aspects of the PPP wording were discussed and noted.
VA agreed to proof read the final draft. Action VA
JimH agreed to have his contact number included.
LB agreed to have the PPC e mail feedback contact included.
HA described the proposed format of the printed PPP and explained the timetable of production that will have 500 copies ready for distribution to parishioners on the weekend of Pentecost Sunday. The PPP will also be sent out by e mail with that weekend’s copy of the parish newsletter.
PM thanked HA for her time and commitment to this project.
Deferred to June PPC meeting
LB, BT & VL have met with Tom Baptist (a local catholic youth worker) and discussed how best to survey the views and needs of our young people. They were advised that it would be best for a youth worker to go into the schools to talk to the young people directly rather than try to get their views by means of a questionnaire.
GT will consult with the heads of Edmund Campion and the Becket about how to achieve this. Action GT
VL will circulate information from the meeting with Tom Baptist to PPC members via e mail. Action VL
GT offered to approach one of the interested parties with a view to being a named recipient of the J & P material. Action GT
Further discussion will take place at the June PPC meeting.
LB reported two items of feedback :
AM suggested that we must be careful not to give the impression that we are telling schools what to do.
LB suggested that the newsletter column is written after the PPC minutes have been distributed.
Deferred to June PPC meeting
This will be covered in the PPP – so no need to discuss here.
JE has organised an evening on Wednesday 24 May in the Social Centre for discussion & reflection of issues in this proposed bill.
CAFOD SILENT AUCTION
MC distributed a copy of the flier which will be handed out to parishioners as they leave mass on the weekend of 13/14 May. The auction is to be held after 6.30pm mass on Saturday 20 May 2006 and its aim is to raise funds to buy a well for an African village. MC urged PPC members to encourage their groups to attend and take part in the auction.
CHURCH FLOOR REFURBISHMENT
This is to take place from Monday 14 August to Friday 25 August 2006. The church will need to be cleared of furniture and will therefore be unavailable for mass during that period. GT will consider the best option for a venue for mass whilst the work is being carried out.
JimH offered to establish & co-ordinate a team of approx 12 men to move the benches out of church on Saturday 12 August and back into church ready for Saturday evening mass on Saturday 26 August. Action JimH
CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION
VA has arrangements in hand and has placed volunteer sheets for helpers at the back of church.
JimH agreed to organise altar servers and GT will decide on whether or not the procession goes ahead in the event of bad weather. Tea & coffee will be available after the procession.
GT suggested that fathers of first Holy Communion children could form a protective Guard of Honour around the Blessed Sacrament during the procession. LB agreed to organise this. Action LB
BISHOP’S PARISH VISITATION
GT informed the group that the Bishop will be making a formal visitation to the parish on Sunday 5 November 2006. The programme for the visit will be as follows :
9-10.15am Presentation of parish registers & accounts in Social Centre by parish catechists & accountant (T.B.C.). Light refreshments.
10.30am Celebration of mass followed by tea & coffee with parishioners in Social Centre.
1pm Lunch with PPC.
3pm Sacrament of the sick, followed by tea & cakes in the Social Centre.
5pm Bishop departs.
GT requested that the PPC organise the lunch and the sacrament of the sick,
followed by refreshments. PM informed us that the mechanism for the sacrament of the sick is already set up.
Further discussion to take place at a future PPC meeting.
DAY FOR LIFE
MR distributed a document about this event, which will be held on Sunday 2 July 2006. You are asked to read the document in preparation for discussion at the June PPC meeting.
PARISH AGM
It was decided that this year’s AGM will be held at 7pm on Sunday 10 September 2006. MR agreed to contact Brian Carroll to ask if he is free to attend in the same capacity as last year. Action MR
