Matters arising from minutes of PPC Meeting 9 November 2005
Operation Christmas Card: good progress being made giving out cards for delivery. JE sent note to thank all those who assisted in getting cards ready. Cost £850. Evaluate success after Christmas.
Parish Pastoral Plan: VL received a couple of comments about plan; asked that any others be forwarded to her asap. JH thanked VL and her team for all their work in producing the plan. Text of plan is being designed by parishioners; plan will then be sent to diocese and later the parish, as scheduled.
Leadership of the PPC: dealt with below.
No Longer Children: MD produced leaflet to advertise and promote course, the first meeting of which takes place 5 January 2006. Two positive commitments so far. VA to assist in registration and collecting money at first meeting; AT to organise refreshments; PW to set up.
Youth Leader: BT wrote to youth officer at Cathedral for more information; VL and PM to contact other churches (St Luke’s, St Wilfred’s) for more information about what their youth workers do, their objectives and outcomes. Youth club currently not well attended; the recent Open Mic evening, however, was a great success and may lead youth in new direction. Youth worker would probably have to work in partnership with other parishes in our ‘cluster’ (i.e. south of the river: Clifton, East Leake, Cotgrave, Keyworth, Radcliffe-on-Trent). Research to continue.
PPC Consitution and leadership of the PPC
CH circulated document produced by working group, ‘Proposed Changes to the Constitution of the Holy Spirit Parish Council’, which was accepted. It was decided that the parish Child Protection team needs to be represented on the PPC. In addition, the Liturgy Group needs to be more extensively represented considering all the areas it covers. Representatives of these groups will be invited on to the PPC.
Chris Hoban was nominated and seconded as Chair; Peter Molyneux was nominated and seconded as Vice Chair. If anyone would like to make alternative nominations, could they please let FG know by next meeting, so an election can be held if necessary. If no nominations are forthcoming, CH and PM to stand as per document ‘Election of Chair/Vice Chair to the PPC’, i.e. Chair for two years, Vice Chair for 1 year.
Training for PPC members at Cathedral
Anyone interested in a forthcoming course, spring 2006, to contact FG for more information.
Health and Safety: Church and Social Centre
CH and MD (JH assist if nec.) to begin work on all issues relating to H & S (e.g. fire extinguishers, exit emergency plans, PAT testing, risk assessments, first aid, wheelchair access, fire escape, etc.).
Peace Sunday pack: for Sunday 15 January 2006
VA to circulate information to children’s liturgy group, and will organise prayers etc for children reading that day.
Assistance with Christmas presents
All PPC members helped distribute presents kindly donated by FG, to various members of the parish for their work over the year.
Mother and Toddlers group
Currently led by Laila Dudhill, this group has gradually seen decline, with possibility of it closing. Discussion about how it could be better promoted and advertised. VA and MS to talk to Laila about its future, could some mums with toddlers interested in developing group help out more? Work to begin New Year.
Meeting ended with a prayer, and a shared table.
Date of next meeting: Wednesday 11th January 2006.
