MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF 14 SEPTEMBER

  1. Circulating PPC Minutes to the parish
  2. It was decided that we will not circulate PPC minutes to the parish email list but it was agreed that important PPC decisions should be published in the newsletter.

IM stressed the importance of PPC members, where relevant, feeding back to the groups they represent. VA offered to contact Peter Swarbrick to ask for a permanent mention in the newsletter about the PPC meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and the minutes being available on the PPC board and in the display unit. Action VA

  3. Churches together in West Bridgford Evangelical Strategy

VA reported that she attended the second "equipping event" and found it to be of interest and saw no cause for our concern. There were approx. 30-40 people at the meeting, most of who were at the older end of the age spectrum. VA and LB will attend the next meeting and VA will feedback to the PPC at the November meeting. Action VA

3. "No Longer Children" Adult Education Course

MR informed the group that we have been asked to change one of the dates of the course. The 7th meeting will now take place on the 16 February instead of the 23 February 2005. The dates now read

5, 12, 19 & 26 January

2, 9 & 16 February

2 & 9 March

4. Welcome evening for Father Peter

BT reported that the evening was enjoyable and MR passed on thanks from PV.

5. Parish calendar

VA will send out the up to date calendar to MR for distribution. Action VA

  1. New badges for PPC greeters at weekend masses

IM said these would be available for masses at the coming weekend. Action IM

PARISH PASTORAL PLAN (PPP)

VL reported back on the latest PPP meeting, which focused on Liturgy and Worship. She also explained the framework agreed for drawing up the PPP. The PPP will focus on the emerging themes from the PPP meetings and from the parish SWOT analysis. It will aim to be a succinct document that points the way forward for the parish but remains subject to amendments as time goes by – a living growing document.

A few members of the PPP group will meet on 19 October to produce a draft document that will then be presented to the full PPP group approx 2 weeks later. This will then be presented to each of the PPC groups in West Bridgford (at the December meeting) and Cotgrave. It has been agreed that West Bridgford and Cotgrave will each produce their own PPP. The plans are to go to the diocese in December.

OFFERTORY GIFTS

GT requested that at weekend masses PPC members encourage the readers to bring up the offertory gifts to the altar whilst the collection is being taken – rather than waiting for the collection money. MR volunteered to contact PF to request that he includes this in the new readers rota pack. Action MR

MASS COUNTS

The diocese requires us to take mass counts at weekend masses on 3 consecutive weekends around this time. MR will co-ordinate numbers and volunteers to collect numbers are BT for 6.30pm mass, AT for 9am and VA for 10.30am Action BT, AT, VA & MR

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

AT agreed to ask the UCM to look at the World Mission Sunday pack to help plan the liturgy for the weekend of 22/23 October. Action AT

PRISONS WEEK

PMoly volunteered to ask SVP members if they wish to do anything to mark "Prisons Week" which is coming up shortly. Action PMoly

DISABLED PARISHIONERS IN WHEELCHAIRS

GT requested that PPC members available at the back of church be proactive in accompanying parishioners in wheelchairs to their places – to ensure their needs are met.

The need for PPC members to be generally proactive in mass was again emphasised, eg. check that readers have turned up (a copy of the readers rota is kept in the sacristy) and step in/find someone to cover if they have not.

PPC LEADERSHIP

IM reminded the group that he has been chair of the PPC for 2 years and suggested that although he will stay on the PPC for another year it was time to start thinking about the future leadership of the PPC. He suggested that leaders should be democratically elected and asked members to consider for the November meeting whether they would like to be considered for a role as Chair or Vice Chair. Please let IM know before the November meeting if you are interested.

NEXT MEETING

8pm Wednesday 9 November 2005 in the Parish Social Centre.

The meeting was closed with a prayer.
