MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF 10 AUGUST
IM gave a brief report about the A.G.M. and thought it had been a success.
GT suggested we give thought to how we can encourage more people to get actively involved in the parish. Several of the new members were not aware till recently that there was an operational P.P.C. MR suggested putting copies of PPC minutes in the display unit at the back of church and PL suggested circulating them to parishioners on the parish e-mail list Action MR
GT encouraged the group not to become complacent & IM encouraged us to raise awareness of the PPC in our respective groups.
JE thanked those volunteers who "manned" the church between 10am and 6pm for this event on 10 September. There were a limited number of visitors but interest in the murals was expressed. JE suggests that we get more involved next year and encourage our own parishioners to take part in the bike ride
IM thanked all involved and thought the evening was very enjoyable.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CARD
A discussion took place about whether or not to produce & distribute Christmas cards containing information about our Christmas services to every home in the area again this year. It was decided not to do so this year and instead to join forces with the other churches in the area to produce a joint card. VL & PW to liaise with MR about this. Action VL, PW & MR
CH suggested we distribute Christmas posters to each family of parishioners for display in their windows at home in the build up to Christmas. CH & MC will investigate availability of such posters or look at producing our own. Action CH & MC
It was decided to distribute an individual Holy Spirit Easter card for 2006 containing information about our Holy Week services and carrying a message to "come & see" about the Catholic faith. MD is willing to assist someone else with the organisation of this venture and we will consider "personnel" at a future meeting.
PARISH PASTORAL PLAN
VL gave an update. The 5th meeting is scheduled for 8pm Wednesday 21 September – hopefully in Cotgrave. VL hopes to persuade some Cotgrave parishioners to join the group. The meeting will cover discussions about Evangelisation and Mission. VL urged more people to become involved in the discussion meetings, pointing out that the more people involved the better the finished plan will be.
ECUMENICAL ADVENT LITURGY
A discussion was held about whether to continue our links for joint liturgy with Holy Rood church, Edwalton. It was decided to invite Holy Rood to attend sung vespers and benediction in Advent, (which will be conducted by PV) Action VL
Volunteers to be involved with this liturgy – Action BT, PW, IM, VL & MD
It was decided not to organise anything further this advent at Holy Spirit but to support Holy Rood if they organise something.
ADULT FORMATION COURSES
MR has contacted the Diocesan Adult Education centre at Mackworth, enquiring about the "Catechists" course for this Autumn and the "No longer children" course for the Spring. They are not able to offer us our own catechists course this Autumn but invited up to 10 of our parishioners to join in the catechists course being hosted by the Cathedral in September and October. A number of our parishioners will be attending. They are able to offer us a 9 week "No longer children" course in the Spring for Thursday evenings in 2006 on the following dates
5, 12, 19 & 26 January
2, 9 & 23 February
2 & 9 March
It was decided to go ahead with these dates and MD offered to steer the course plans forwards. Action MD
A discussion was held about how to get people involved with the course and GT urged PPC members to encourage their parish groups and circles of friends to attend the course.
CHURCHES TOGETHER IN WEST BRIDGFORD EVANGELISTIC STRATEGY
A discussion took place about what should be the extent of our involvement in advertising this year’s programme. It was decided to maintain a watch and see approach and not to actively advertise the programme – in accordance with the decision taken at the PPC meeting on 8 June 2005 when MJ, AM, JE, VA, LB and VL volunteered to "attend meetings at this year’s programme and feedback their opinions to the PPC"
WELCOME EVENING FOR FATHER PETER VELLACOTT
This will take place after 6.30pm mass on Saturday 24 September 2005. There is to be a shared table and entertainment will be provided by a group of children from St. Edmund Campion school and by singers from the Becket school.
Volunteers to organise the evening - Action BT, VA, IM & CH
PPC GREETERS ROTA
A discussion took place about whether to extend this rota but it was decided instead to ask all PPC members to wear their name badge & make themselves available at whichever weekend mass they attend.
In addition PMoly will continue to "host" 6.30pm mass, CH will continue to do the same at 10.30am mass and CH will ask Hughie Kavanagh to do the same at 9am mass. Action PMoly & CH
IM offered to produce name badges for new members Action IM
