MINUTES OF LAST MEETING (8 June 2005)

Please correct the last section about CAFOD. In the second bullet point, the date should read 17th September.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

  1. Natural family planning course
  2. JE reported this is provisionally arranged for the autumn & to be run by David & Louise Aldred – an item will be placed in the bulletin in due course and the course will be advertised in other local catholic churches. SPUC are happy to host the course.

  3. Travel plan
  4. JimH will work on this over the next few weeks and organize a survey to find out what parishioners want. Action JimH

  5. Ecumenical representative

Sally Edwards has volunteered to take on this role & will contact IM

PARISH PASTORAL PLAN (P.P.P.)

VL reported that last month’s meeting considered "Structures & Planning" & she hopes to circulate minutes from that meeting soon. The next meting is on Wednesday 20 July (venue t.b.a.) and will consider education. She encouraged people to attend & participate in the meeting.

MJ reported that GT sought guidance from Margaret Smidowicz (the diocesan advisor) re. the format of the P.P.P. She suggests it’s written up in table form as follows :

CH passed on to VL a copy of the "Building Communities of Hope – resources & reflections for parish & deanery pastoral councils" for any guidance it may give.

NOTTINGHAM HISTORIC CHURCHES TRUST BIKE RIDE

The trust has organized a bike ride/walk for Saturday 10 September 2005 - participants will call at various churches en route. Mid June was the closing date for signing up churches to be involved but JE will register our interest – participants may be interested in the Holy Spirit ceiling & murals. Action JE

RACIAL JUSTICE SUNDAY 11 SEPTEMBER

CC & LB volunteered to download bidding prayers from www.carj.org.uk for this date. Action CC & LB

COLLECTIONS

A discussion took place about raising sufficient funds for the parish. The effectiveness of the envelope system was briefly discussed. The frequency and effectiveness of second collections was considered. The rationale behind holding quota collections was queried.

It was noted that the parish AGM on 11 September 2005 will incorporate a financial report. It was decided to suggest to GT that it would be useful for the PPC to have a preview of the parish financial situation at their August meeting. Action MR

DAY FOR LIFE (23/24 JULY 2005)

MR has extracted bidding prayers for use at masses from a pack sent out from the diocese. Prayer cards and leaflets have also been sent for distribution to parishioners. MR will organize their distribution. Action MR

JE volunteered to look at the rest of the pack for suitable ideas. Action JE

MJ will consider whether a focused homily is appropriate. Action MJ

A.O.B.

Use of kitchen in Social Centre

1. CH expressed concern about the state in which the new kitchen is sometimes being left. He pointed out that Health & Safety regulations dictate that certain procedures must be followed. It was suggested that we need a checklist for clearing up procedure on display. Action CH

2. MR has written a guide to using the dishwasher & this is displayed in the kitchen.

3. MD offered to co-ordinate the use of the kitchen in future if necessary.
