MINUTES OF LAST MEETING (13 APRIL 2005)

Accepted and any matters arising are dealt with in the sections below.

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION

IM suggested that the procession would be better going ahead without musicians. VA will ask John O’Brien to lead the singing. Action VA

VA reported that preparations are well in hand and asked that PPC members encourage parishioners to sign the procession forms at the back of church. Action all PPC

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK

VL reported a very disappointing response to her request for support for the street collection for Christian Aid. MR suggested that a more direct approach to individuals might lead to a better response.

PARISH PASTORAL PLAN

VL explained that the Core Group has decided to consider the main headings from the Diocesan Pastoral Plan on a basis of one a month. They will then produce a first draft of the Parish Pastoral Plan which will be put before the PPC, publicised in the parish newsletter and put before an open meeting of the Parish. The new Diocesan Pastoral Plan advisor, Margaret Smidowicz, will be invited along to the Parish open meeting.

VL stressed that the P.P.P. will always be a "working document" that will need to be revisited each year.

VL will send details of the programme for the Core Group meetings and a summary of the discussions from their most recent meeting to MR for her to distribute to the PPC. Action VL & MR

VL and the Core Group would welcome more members of the PPC to attend their meetings and MD asked that all members of the PPC return feedback about the work of the Core Group. Action all PPC

TIMETABLE FOR PPC VOTING/TERMS OF REFERENCE

IM distributed a working document about this to all PPC members before tonight’s meeting. He asks that if anyone has not received this they contact him and he will send it to them. IM requests that all PPC members give feedback to him on this document – with reference to the wording, content & spirit before the next PPC meeting. He hopes to formulate the terms of reference at the next meeting. Action all PPC

IM received a few suggestions for amendments to his document in the meeting.

IM urged the PPC members to be proactive in encouraging people to stand for the PPC parish representative positions. Action all PPC

WEEKEND MASSES ORGANISATION

A discussion took place about the need for people to be a visible presence at each of the weekend masses – to serve as a point of reference for questions and to sort out any problems that arise.

It was recognized that CH does this very effectively at the 10.30am mass. PMoly offered to do this at the 6.30pm mass. (BT offered to be greeters with her daughters when Paul & Anne Hornsby leave the parish.)

CH suggested a parishioners name to be a "figurehead" at 9am mass and will make an approach to this person. Action CH

It was suggested that PPC members wear their badges and make themselves available every weekend at mass. SG’s rota can run alongside this, ensuring that each mass is covered by at least one member.

CHURCHES TOGETHER IN WEST BRIDGFORD EVANGELISTIC STRATEGY

A discussion was held about the document, circulated by GT prior to the meeting, from the "Churches Together in West Bridgford Evangelistic Strategy." A wide range of opinions were expressed a decision was taken to collect and collate everyone’s reactions to the document outside of the meeting. IM asked that all members e mail him by the weekend of 14/15 May with their thoughts on the document and whether or not we should get involved with the programme. Action all PPC

He will then discuss our views with GT and feed back to us, before next meeting, what they suggest as a way forward. Action IM & GT
