MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON 10 NOVEMBER 2004
A.O.B. Car Park Lighting – JonH reported that IM raised the issue with the Development Group. CH has replaced a light.
A.O.B. Car Park Space – GT reported that parishioners seem to be taking heed of the note in the newsletter asking parishioners to reserve the car park for the disabled.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CARD
MR reported that distribution of the packs of cards to parishioners is going well. More than two thirds of the packs were taken by parishioners during last weekend’s masses. MR recruited volunteers to distribute remaining packs at next weekend’s masses… MR will ask MJ to encourage parishioners to take them.
GT thanked all involved in the project.
SWOT REPORT & PARISH PASTORAL PLAN
VL reported that the SWOT report has been serialized recently in the parish newsletter. Very little feedback has been received from parishioners. DK suggested that PPC members seek reaction from their representative groups – this was agreed to be a good idea.
DIOCESAN PASTORAL PLAN
VL attended the cathedral recently to collect our copy of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan (D.P.P.). A period of study & reflection will now follow and there will be Lenten discussions that pick up on aspects of the D.P.P.
GT reported that the D.P.P. is being seen as a tool to be used and as a document that will move the church forwards in the diocese.
He pointed out key words from the D.P.P. :
Collaborative, Ecumenical, Interfaith, Social Justice & Inclusive
GT reported that MJ is to chair an ecumenical clergy group on Thursday 9 December and is to raise these keywords for possible discussion within the group.
GT gave an example of the contents of the D.P.P. - it suggests a Deanery Pastoral Council … so how can we make this happen ?
GT suggested that individual parish groups such as CAFOD could link up with others in the deanery in a spirit of collaboration.
PARISH REORGANISATION
GT explained that following the open meeting held at Our Lady’s Church, Cotgrave on 6 October 2004 the Diocesan Trustees have considered the representations made by parishioners and have come up with an alternative proposal for discussion and consultation. They propose that
COLLECTIONS & COUNTERS
1. GT reflected that the current counters have a big workload and asked for volunteers to boost the numbers on the counters rota. Please consider whether you can volunteer yourself for the rota or recruit suitable people from the parish. Names to MR please.
2. GT reported that during refurbishment of the church and social centre we shall be having mass in the Becket school - and consequently new arrangements for counting & banking of the collection money are needed. He has decided to follow the lead given by Keyworth & Cotgrave, where the counters take the collection money home, count it, log it and bank it themselves.
3. The recent SWOT analysis revealed a degree of criticism about lack of information to the parish about finances. GT hopes that this greater involvement of counters will strengthen collaboration between priests and parishioners. In addition he intends to publish the weekly collection amounts on the church noticeboard.
ADVENT SESSION WITH HOLY ROOD CHURCH
VL encouraged members to join in this session, which is to be held on Thursday 9 December 2004 at 8pm in the Social Centre. AT offered to help provide refreshments on the night. GT offered to ask Bill to set up the urn and cups.
