MINUTES OF APRIL 2010

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE APRIL MINUTES

Extending links with other faiths – MC suggested we take up John Murray’s offer to borrow the Interfaith Exhibition and invite John to talk to a wider parish group.  She put forward GT’s suggestion that we plan this as a project for next January during Christian Unity week and invite members from different faiths (Christian and others.)  Discussion :

Decided to contact John Murray to find out what would be possible and to seek his advice about format and content.  Action MR

Corpus Christi procession – All authorities have been informed of the change of date to Sunday 6 June.  MJ and AK are working on getting key personnel in place and MJ distributed fliers to promote the procession to parish groups.

Parking -  MC asked PPC members to be vigilant and look out for parishioners parking across neighbours’ drives or blocking their parked cars.  Please ask the parishioners sensitively & politely, on behalf of the PPC, to park elsewhere.

MICHAEL WILLIAMS ORDINATION

MES reported there will be a week of spiritual preparation for the parish before the Ordination, which will take place at 12 noon on Saturday 26 June.  Maria Dabrowska is organising a series of talks by different priests. Sally Edwards is organising a Spiritual Bouquet.  MR informed members of preparations for the reception after the ordination – a committee has been set up to organise this – there will be a marquee in the car park, drink will be provided by the parish and there will be an organised shared table for food.  MR urged members to encourage parishioners to sign up with offers for the shared table.  There will be a second collection for Michael on the weekend of 22/23 May.

PARISH PASTORAL PLAN

“To improve our understanding of God’s word in the scriptures”

A summary of the main discussion points :

·         There is a difference between reading and understanding

·         To understand the scriptures we need to understand their background & the outlook of the people at the time

·         It is appreciated when a homily sets a reading in context

·         The Thursday fellowship group look at readings for the following Sunday

·         Bibles with commentaries are available

·         Suggested we buy some copies of the New Testament (and maybe other scriptures) with commentaries and leave them available in the narthex – a possible form of evangelisation for our casual visitors - MES will email details of suitable publications to MR.   Action MES

·         We need more books available for children to enhance their understanding

·         JG will investigate if any “players” are available to do dramatisations of the scriptures for children.  Action JG

·         Should we have a course of Bible Study ? – many resources are available – eg run by the Vincentians or a DVD series by Scott Halm

·         Our library is a point of reference for parishioners

A.O.B.

1.  MR brought a letter received by GT from “Nottingham Crime & Drugs Partnership” asking us to consider having a donations box fixed into the church somewhere – the concept behind the scheme is to encourage the public not to give cash to beggars on the street but rather to give to this organisation which will distribute the money to organisations that help the homeless, drug addicts and alcoholics.  JG offered to fine out more about the scheme and report back to the next meeting. Action JG

2.  MR informed the group of the development of the “Rock Church”  which will be launched on Saturday 12 June 2010 at the European Suite at the Nottingham Forest City Ground.

The meeting closed with a prayer.

Next Meeting

8pm Wednesday 9 June 2010 in the upper room of the Social Centre.
