MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 2010
Approved but correct the
“date of next meeting”
MATTERS ARISING FROM THE FEBRUARY MINUTES
a) “Further prayer groups were not considered
necessary at this time” - agreed to
review this in 6 months time.
b) Cafod Lent Fast
– MC reported £1,586 collected in Cafod Lent Fast envelopes – hopes that the
Cafod Lent boxes will produce further money.
c) Lenten Project
– discussion took place about the pros and cons of having the 10.30am Mass at
The Becket and it was suggested that parishioners at all 3 weekend masses
should vote about whether or not we continue with the venue.
d) Corpus Christi procession – discussion took place about the logistics of the
procession after 10.30am Mass if the Mass is held at The Becket. GT suggested we could walk from The Becket
to The Holy Spirit Church or to St Patrick’s School – maybe involve another
parish in our deanery but it was suggested that the distances involved may be
too great. It was proposed that we hold the procession after the 6.30pm Mass on
Sat 5th June and KG will contact the police to see if this is
possible. Action KG
NATIONAL FAMILY WEEK
Discussion took place about
the previously circulated document “National Family Week” scheduled for 31 May – 6 June 2010. Members thought that SJ’s suggestion of a
Parish Picnic was a good idea. Another
suggestion was that we have a BBQ after the Corpus Christi Procession. MC and AK will discuss with SJ. Action

MALT CROSS TRUST STREET PASTORS
Discussion took place about
this scheme, whose website had been previously circulated – some reservation
was expressed about whether we are “culturally” prepared to go out on the
streets in this way. KP suggested we
put this out in the newsletter to see if anyone is interested in becoming
involved.
GREENING WEST BRIDGFORD – COMMUNITY LAUNCH EVENT
MR distributed a document
about this event, which is to be held at The Becket School 11am – 2pm on Sat 20
March 2010. MC explained some of the
background to the event and informed members that Cafod will have a stall at
the event. SJ suggested by email that
our church has a “Green Sunday” once a month, where all parishioners, across
all Masses, are encouraged to walk/cycle/car share. There was discussion about whether environmental matters fall
within the remit of the church but it was suggested that the concept fits in
with Cafod’s “Live Simply” campaign. It was decided to put the suggestion into
the newsletter and let parishioners make up their own minds about whether or
not they get involved – MC offered to do this. Action MC
PARISH PASTORAL PLAN
“To extend links with other faiths within our
community”
Discussion took place about
which other faiths are in our community.
There are various other denominations of churches within the local
Christian community and JM is our link with CTWB (Churches Together in West
Bridgford) and with “Women’s world day of prayer.” We were not aware of places of worship within our own community
belonging to non Christian faiths but there are certainly people of non
Christian faiths living amongst us. GT
highlighted the need to build bridges with people of other faiths.
KP and CV informed members of
the work done in our schools to educate our young people about Judaism,
Hinduism, Islam & other non Christian faiths. Previous generations have probably had little education of this
sort. GT recognised that the seeds of
tolerance can be sown in schools. He
suggested we invite John Murray from Cotgrave Parish (John is the Executive
Officer of the Nottingham Inter Faith Council) to talk to us at our next PPC
meeting. Action MR
The meeting closed with a
prayer.
