MINUTES OF APRIL 2009 MEETING

Accepted as a true record.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE APRIL MINUTES

a) Passion Play - "was inspirational." It was suggested that we open it up to the deanery if we host it again.

b) Corpus Christi Procession – KG reported that arrangements are all in hand for the procession after 10.30am Mass on Sunday 14 June 2009. Requests for volunteer first aiders and stewards have been made.

c) Toddler Group Toy Storage – MC & PW will discuss resolution of storage options with MD Action MC & PW

d) Youth Worker – MG reported that the group will be interviewing on 1 June

e) Jobs Fair – MC suggested "stalls" that show the various activities going on throughout the parish – to be set up in the car park (or in Soc. Cen. in bad weather) after weekend Masses.

GT reported that a similar thing had been organised recently by Simon Gillespie at the Cathedral – MC will make contact to seek advice and will co-ordinate a date suitable for the parish. Action MC

f) Family Fun Day – discussion took place about the desirability & feasibility of such an event and it was decided to take no further action.

Relics of St Theresa of Lisieux

St Theresa’s relics will be on display at St Barnabas Cathedral from 5pm on Monday 5 Oct to 12 noon on Tuesday 6 October. GT informed the group that our deanery is planning a month of spiritual preparation – focusing on the sick, the youth, Reconciliation and the Eucharist -before the relics arrive. Plans are being considered to hold services at The Holy Spirit (Mon 7 September 7pm-9pm) and at St Augustine’s (Mon 14 September at 7.30pm). There is to be a service for the sick at the Cathedral from 3pm-4pm on Sun 20 September and there is to be an all night vigil at the cathedral. Please encourage your groups to become involved and to feed back any ideas for the preparations. All events will hopefully be open to all churches in the deanery. It was suggested that The Holy Spirit all night vigil on Fri 2 October could focus on St Theresa (her feast day is Thurs 1 October.)

CT spoke briefly about St Theresa – a Carmellite nun, who died at the age of 24 in 1897 and recommended the book about her life - "The story of a soul" as good spiritual reading – it has helped and encouraged many people.

PW suggested that we might have a Carmellite retreat in September - he will make enquiries and let GT know if it is possible. Action PW

CV & RB will incorporate work about St Theresa into the R.E. curriculum at St Edmund Campion. Action CV & RB
