MINUTES OF MARCH 2009 MEETING

Accepted as a true record.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MARCH MINUTES

a) Corpus Christi Procession Date 14-6-09 Action MJ and KG

MJ will organise it with KG. They will meet to plan the event, which will follow the usual route along Victoria Road, Loughborough Road, North Road and Melton Road back to church, starting straight after 10.30 Mass.

After a discussion about the timing of the procession –Saturday pm or Sunday, it was decided to stay with Sunday.

b) Supporting the Unemployed

A discussion about supporting the unemployed with voluntary work – GT felt it was a difficult area to consider, with the need to be sensitive and discreet thus avoiding upset or embarrassment. JH felt something had to be in place before anything could go into the newsletter. It was decided to ask Jo Garfield if anyone took up the offer to help with preparing/updating CV’s. Action JH

c) The Toddler group is experiencing difficulty finding replacement helpers even after GT asked for volunteers in the Newsletter. No one has come forward. The problem is getting equipment downstairs from the present storage area ready for the morning session. GT stressed the Hall must be kept clear for Parish use, which all agreed with. MC has seen Chris Hoban (CH) with a view to moving some of the Toddler Group equipment downstairs. GT gave his approval for MC to consider with Maria Dabrowska and CH better use of the lowest library shelf spacing, converting it into suitable storage space for some of the boxes of the Toddler Group. Action MC

d) Youth Worker – an interest has been expressed in the post.

e) Passion Play - on 28th March 8pm after 6.30pm Mass was a moving and powerful experience enjoyed by those (80) who went. Tickets £5 for costs, with £1 of it going to Fr Vincent’s fund. Some parishioners volunteered their hospitality giving B&B to the group of 30 actors from a Welsh SVP group. Holy Spirit SVP, who organised this event, felt they had difficulty selling tickets and it cost them, not the Parish to put on this fantastic play.

It was decided to repeat this in another 3 years with the Parish as a whole being more involved. Better and earlier publicity with reviews from this play to advertise and encourage support would be useful. Action MJ

INTER FAITH COUNCIL 25th ANNIVERSARY - Saturday 4th July 2009 Market Square

Nottingham City Council is celebrating Faiths in the City and in partnership with The Nottingham Inter Faith Council, celebrating their work in the City over the last 25years. This is an opportunity to promote Faith Groups, and their work within the community to the wider public. As application has to be in by tomorrow 9th April it was decided to leave any entry on our behalf to The Diocese of Nottingham.

MC will contact Cafod at Rearsby. Action MC

200 FUND

KG explained the proposal to set up a 200 Club in The Holy Spirit Parish to raise money for The Sick and Retired Priests’ Fund. 200 members each paying £1 a month will be entered into a draw, which takes place on the last Sunday each month. £200 will be allocated: - 45% = £90 to the Fund, 45% = £90 to prizes e.g. £50, £25 and £15. 10% to cover running expenses with any surplus going to the Fund. The money will to be collected in a one off payment of £12 for the year. GT gave the go-ahead buying the first number "1" on condition that selling did not take place in Church. Action KG

AOB

JH asked members to have thoughts re the AGM next October, as there will be no meetings in July or August.

MC mentioned a "Jobs Fair" type event for Groups in the Parish, to get to know each other and to enable better networking within the Parish. GT asked her to think about it and then plan it. Action MC

MG suggested a Family Fun Day in August and was asked to organise it. Action MG

PARISH PASTORAL PLAN - Discussion from "Our Aims"

"To nurture and enrich the faith of all members of the Parish" – The Church teaches Prayer and the Sacraments nurture and enrich the faith of its members.

Our challenge is how to make the Sacraments more relevant to ourselves. We should want to go to Mass and partake in the Eucharist rather than letting it become part of the routine in Mass.

Make more use of Lent as a Penitential time.

The Church teaches "Marriage" not co-habiting – how do we as a Parish deal with this?

What more can we get from our faith?

How can we delve deeper?

The Library developed from the need for Adult Education. Should more use be made of this facility?

Should it be enhanced with more books to stimulate all sections of the Parish?

What helps you?

Quietness?

Praise and Hymns?

Prayers or Silence?

Private or Shared Prayer?

GT felt that people enrich him especially when celebrating Mass in the Parish.

The meeting closed with a Prayer.

Next meeting 13th May 2009 in the Social Centre.
